Dsquared2 Spring 2019: Survivalism Goes Glam

Between military fatigues, extreme sportswear and corsetry, survivalism went over-the-top glam at Dsquared2’s Spring 2019 runway show in Milan. The Caten twins drew inspiration from fashions current preoccupation with military grunt style, which has already been tapped in every possible way by every designer this season. This was the case at DSquared2, where Dean and Dan Caten delved into a campy militaristic fantasy of reconfigured fatigues, humongous parkas and blousons, gigantic, all dressed up with massive, multi-color wedge sneakers. “The Giant Heel” shoes even featured buckle straps, similar to that of the newly anointed ugly sandals. So, what we have here is a ugly-trainer-sandal-heel hybrid, and definite proof that the ‘ugly’ shoe trend is still alive and well into 2019.
