Stella McCartney Debuts New Vegan Menswear Line For Spring 2017

Menswear is the place to be right now and Stella McCartney is diving into menswear head first with a collection that references Britain’s rich musical history. With the launch of Stella MCartney Menswear, the designer is adding her own brand of cool Brit swagger to men’s wardrobes. Her Spring 2017 men’s collection playfully chronicles the history of the British music scene, from the 60s Beatles to 80s punk and rock n roll. The looks run the gamut from slim black suits paired with athletic slides worn with socks, to a tailored herringbone overcoat juxtaposed with a graphic T-shirt and track pants. All of which she refers to as the key moments in her life. The music sub cultures range from rastafarians to ravers, with a tailored DB jacket to cocooning mackintoshes and slouchy knits, a signature staple of Stella McCartney’s brand. The collection in many ways is an antidote to the lace-swathed androgny currently dominating the men’s runway shows . “I am obsessed with tailoring because I had grown up with my dad’s Beatles suits and wardrobe. And my mum had men’s suits made for her by Tommy Nutter,” she says, referring to the ’60s Savile Row tailor. “It was that era of rock ’n’ roll. That’s what I was looking at and in love with growing up.” For years, McCartney has designed one-off suits for her father, and husband Alisdhair Willis among other close friends, including Ronnie Wood of the Rolingstones which helped spark a following that demanded a menswear line out of the British designer. Some of the most significant pieces in her collection are the non-leather vegan sneakers which put her on the map.  McCartney is committed to not using leather, instead sourcing luxury materials that are organic and PVC free for her accessories, and shoes. The designer has even gone as far as appearing in a video for PETA that exposes the torture involved in farming fur for fashion. Along with saving animals, Stella is also committed to protecting our natural resources and carefully sources all of the wood used in her brand to ensure that there is zero deforestation impact. This opens up the brand to a fresh new audience of men looking for high fashion that comes with a bonus of being socially responsible and cruelty free.
