In his first men’s show for Maison Margiela, John Galliano’s perspective comes across loud and clear in an unrestricted foray into haute couture territory. Galliano opens up a new conversation about masculinity in motion as his show notes so aptly state. Similar to many designers today, Galliano is inspired by the rise in gender fluidity and the evolving landscape in menswear that is pushing the boundaries of traditional masculinity.
The designer however, pushes the concept further by exploring his own body of work at Dior and traditional women’s garments in it’s truest form— enter: bustiers. “I hope it’s going to define a new sensuality, a new sexuality”, designer John Galliano explains of his Spring 19 collection for Maison Margiela, “I just got so excited with the changing landscape of menswear and the new energy that’s coming in at different houses”.
