When Fashion and Drugs Collide – See Raf Simons’ Fall 2018 Men’s Collection

Raf Simons set up his own Drug-Fueled Last Supper resembling a Caravaggio still-life painting for his Fall 2018 men’s show. The opulent tableaux with fruits, red wine, loaves of bread, sugary coated waffles and luscious flower arrangements — was the backdrop for his collection, titled “Youth in Motion.”

Inspired by the German film Christiane F., about a heroin junkie in 1970s Berlin. Strung-out photos of Christiane F. and the periodic table, LSD and XTC patches decorated t-shirts and the knees of jeans and hoodies. The drug references surfaced both subtly, and as patches on scarves and screen printed knee pads with the words LSD, XTC and GHB, or the word “drugs” printed in large block letters on a sliced open hoodie.

Raf’s latest offering opens up a new dialogue around society’s complicated relationship with drugs and addiction instead of outright projecting an opinion on it.
