What to Wear: Paris Trends for Spring 2014

Paris Trends for Spring 2014

The Paris Lounge Luxe Trend Breaks All the Rules

The Paris trends for Spring 2014, Paris designers added a louche, eclectic charm to smart, easy to wear lounge wear. Men all over the globe have taken a liking towards the trend, which has helped transform the lowly track pant into an essential part of an A+ wardrobe. The new play on the casual chic silhouette is emphasized by relaxed pull on trousers and elongated shirting that can truly go from play to a night out on the town.

At Hermes, Creative Director Veronique Nichanian created effortless, luxe resort wear using light summery fabrics, including lambskin leather, flannel, cotton voile and linens. A sporty lavender windbreaker with ribbed sleeves was casually paired with brick flannel ankle cuffed trousers. Flat leather strap sandals and a large canvas bag complete the look.

Dries Van Noten stated, “It’s challenging to see how far you can go — and stay, in my eyes, masculine.”  His models sported vintage floral botanical prints on billowing silk robes, fluid pants, shirtlike blazers, slim trousers, surfer shorts, and jackets with gold bullion embroidery. Noten’s penchant for menswear made with traditionally feminine fabrics gave the collection a hedonistic bedroom vibe. A black square cut, cotton T-shirt was worn with silky floral embossed trousers sprouting sinister dark green flowers.

John Galliano’s Creative Director Bill Gaytan captured the essence of 90’s street-wear with oversized tops in bold, vibrant hues. One of our favorite looks was a elongated yellow T-shirt with a detachable zip pocket, worn underneath a perforated laser-cut black leather jacket underlaid with an acid yellow lining. Navy blue cotton trousers with a dropped crotch gave the look an instant cool edge, while bronze embossed leather oxfords add the finishing touch.

For spring, Philip Lim was intrigued by the lifestyle and functional gear of surfers, world travelers, and the “accidental tourist.” It was all about combining pieces that typically don’t go together and incorporating them into comfortable, but polished casual looks. Philip Lim opted for oceanic hues on a metallic leather moto jacket paired with blue cargo pants gathered at the ankle, and worn with the prerequisite laid-back blue jelly sandals.

Lanvin’s Elbaz and Lucas Ossendrijver’s take on leisurewear was beautifully crafted from sensual tactile fabrics like silk jersey. The soft drape of the fabrics were meant to enhance an athletic fit on the body and offer the ultimate in comfort. Here a raspberry silk jersey T-shirt was paired with matching trousers that fall into luxe crinkles. Red, flat leather slide sandals were the perfect complement to this ultra-chill nonchalant look.

Valentino’s Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli set out to break all the rules, for their spring collection. This season, the focus was on delivering easy to wear essentials necessary to the contemporary man’s wardrobe. The duo was influenced by workwear and military uniforms. A perfect example of the lush technicality of Valentino’s lounge wear was seen on a slim denim coat that was cut, sewn and bonded, and worn with matching denim trousers.
