Primitive Patterning Was Prominent at Lanvin

Everywhere we turn there is an emerging trend in street style; as the fashion crowd moves further and further away from the polished and refined, Lanvin boldly ventures in the opposite direction with a collection centered around men’s suiting. When the new “dressing up” is dressing down, the last thing we would expect is a revival for suiting; however, designer Lucas Ossendrijver manages to do just that.

With cargo pockets, hardware, zippers, and belts, cool deconstruction infiltrates each look and breathes new life into the classic suit. The technical elements speak to the idea of a classic working man — with a little edge. Plenty of garments shown featured camoflauge elements peeking through a largely muted color palette of black, navy, and olive green. Despite a muted color story, many pieces feature stylized prints and patterns to break up each layer. “You wear a suit when you want to blend in”, Ossendrijver explains, yet ironically enough, the collection does anything but blend in.

Oversized hoodies paired with structured pea coats hit just the right note between professional and tactical, and when paired with a chunky sneaker the look is right on trend for the guy looking for something a bit more off-beat. Nylon rain jackets meet traditional pinstriped suits, layered with deconstructed sweater vests and button ups to create multi-dimensional looks perfect for men on the go.
