Nicole Miller Spring 2015: Brazilian Carnival

The beachy vibe of Nicole Miller’s Spring 2015 show had us running for our sunnies and longing for a day at the beach. Her visually enticing collection was Inspired by her memories of Rio de Janeiro, and the tropical vibe was unmistakable. The ruffled hemlines on skirts and dresses in vibrant prints and colors intensified the collection’s sunny disposition while remaining flirty, but not too frou frou. The graphic black and white runway was modeled after Copa Cabana’s Sambodromo Avenue  and was played up in the prints on a few numbers in the collection including a pixelated version on a lightweight trench coat. The delectable palette included yellow, jade blue, coral and the use of black and white as Nicole played up the feminine factor with cut-outs, fruit motifs and ruffles. There were striped cropped tops and skirts and a print Miller referred to as a deconstructed “origami pineapple” which she used on a cropped bralette and matching pencil skirt, in addition to a flirty pair of shorts. Mixed prints were plentiful and an unconventional pairing of palm tree printed ankle length trousers and a knit sweater with striped black and white sleeves hit the mark. Nicole Miller’s feminine and flirty aesthetic is infinitely refreshing and a collection we look forward to each season.
