Super Psychedelia at Paul Smith Spring 2014

Sir Paul Smith traded in his signature hand tailored suits for high performance sportswear including bomber jackets and tailored sweatpants. ‘The point of the collection is texture and the mix of performance materials with classic summer fabrics,’ stated Smith. His Multi-tasking customers who fleet from meeting to meeting and have an active lifestyle are the inspiration, and achieving a functional wardrobe through innovative fabrics and design was his goal.

The show kicked off with a simple ochre paneled sweater inset with contrasting nude pink horizontal bands over stone pleated cuffed trousers worn with black sandals and black socks. Next came a rush of hot pink and fuchsia seen on jackets, trousers and contrasting details.  A model sporting a vibrant hot pink blazer over a black and white pointy collar shirt and fuchsia neoprene sweatpants with zippered pant cuffs is balanced by black leather ankle boots.

A bevy of eccentric prints made an appearance as in a black and white floral inspired hand drawn print seen on a bomber jacket with contrasting black ribbed knit collar, cuffs and waist band with striking double zipper closure. The jacket was paired with tailored cream neoprene sweatpants and leather boots. A colorful mushroom print followed and was used as a graphic on T- shirts,  sweaters and as an all-over motif on a finely tailored mens shirt paired with relaxed stone trousers.

The mix of psychedelic colors, synthetic fabrics and mushroom prints along with the trippy asymmetry seen throughout the show was pretty far out. However, the collision of sportswear and suiting created a pretty successful lineup.
