Brioni’s Menswear Collection Epitomizes The Look of Money
Brioni Fall/Winter 2016/2017 Menswear Ready-To-Wear Collection by creative director Brendan Mullane.
Brendan Mullane took us on an Alpine Adventure evolving the collection from suits to luxury outdoor wear. In addition to the Roman tailored men’s suits the brand is known for which came covered in textured checks or plaids in lightweight wool and silks, Mullane showed off the perfect mink jacket in a herringbone intarsia. The delicate herringbone pattern was created from pieced together mink. One things for sure, the Brioni man certainly knows how to stay warm, whether on the slopes or just hanging around the chalet wearing water-repellent tartan coats and ski jackets with detachable fur hoods. The strong outerwear offerings also include fur anoraks and artists’ smocks in double-face cashmere with leather-piped seams. Statement sweaters came with magnified checks or playful geometric designs that stood out among a sea of tartan and plaids.
The notable shift from dress shoes and sharp suits to heavy outerwear began with shades of gray, and appropriately incorporated woodsy deep forest greens and shades of blue as the show progressed to the more organic outdoor looks. The revamped fall suits featured a higher than usual waist, creating the illusion of an elongated slim silhouette with a straight cut. Mullane attributes the distorted 3D effects to the process of meticulous and careful layering and sandblasting techniques and which are then overprinted to create dimension. Mullane’s winning collection was filled with form fitting suits, and accompanied by topcoats, parkas, and fur-lined bombers designed to keep away the winter chill.
