Perry Ellis Fall 2016: Staples with an Edge

Perry Ellis fall 2016 touched on every menswear staple with a slight detail to give it edge.  From a distance, the collection appears to be a compilation of preppy workwear. However, up close, the looks reveal plenty of carefully thought out prints and interesting cuts to keep it interesting. Maccari commented “We’ve been playing with the idea of images appearing differently in the distance than they do up close-like landscapes. When you step back, you start to get the bigger picture of shape and proportion, but when you get closer, that image is actually made up of many complicated textures and colors.”

The elaborate landscape of luxurious knits the brand is known for featured cable knits in varying styles, and sweater vests cropped to give them more of a fashion edge. Maccari utilized both color and textures to create a striking effect for each layer when worn together. Deep ocean blue hues, poppy red, sunset golds, and silvery grey make up the collections varying hues.  Every look also factored in layering with button down shirts worn under sweaters and coats over everything .

Another trend appeared in amidst the monochrome looks, Maccari boldly mixed prints in color coordinating ways that worked brilliantly. A plaid coat over a striped sweater and a horizontally striped sweater under a vertically striped jacket of the same colors softened the blunt lines. The entire show had a softness that evoked a casual sense of comfort with oversized pullovers and fleece lined jackets. As for accessories, silk scarves were loosely tied around the necks, and wrapped knit scarves resembling turtlenecks finished off some of the casual looks. Overall, Maccari brings a rebellious, playful edge to preppy menswear, and the wearable looks will be on the streets this fall.
