Marcelo Burlon Fall/Winter 2019 was as irreverent and exciting as ever, and can be split into three different styles: snowboarding, skater dude, and punk rocker. All three underground style tropes were revisited in a modern and exuberant kind of way. Think 90s snowboarding, skate gear and punk rock vibes all melded together into pieces that mix well with each other, rather than clash. Everything goes with everything. Burlon takes the sparkle and the animalier from her, she takes the hoodie, the puffer and the monastic coat from him. All the rest is shared, playfully.
Burlon gathered up various elements from the 90s and reassembled them into new streetwear currency. An arcade of neon flashing lights illuminated the catwalk, as models clad in outrageous colors and prints paraded down the all-black runway. Standout looks include the colored zebra trousers with the velvet blazer, a sequined red striped bomber, and a cropped pullover worn with a plaid jacket and loose-fitting jeans. “It started with this idea of an amusement park that has been abandoned—there’s a spookiness,” said Marcelo Burlon of his Fall collection. The results were clothes that have the sort of appeal of a rave taking place in an abandoned space. They were consciously grungy-glossy, with hits of neon, sequins, and consciously “wrong” acid-hue animal prints.
