House of Holland Sale

Louis Vuitton Fall 2012
by Edwardo Flores
Marc Jacobs collection for Louis Vuitton transported us to the nineteenth century when the famed house began, unveiling a lavish and multi-layered aristocratic theme. Jacobs adopted conservative silhouettes like strict A-lines and empire waist dresses in extraordinary embroidered fabrics, often glitzy or intricate brocades accented by exotic leathers such as ostrich or crocodile. The leather patchwork that formed a checker board was also translated into dramatic skirts, dresses or a décolletage top. What made this collection truly unique was the breathtaking craftsmanship and attention to details. Oversize jeweled buttons (reminiscent of gem encrusted brooches) were placed on coats, pockets and on the cuff of trousers. A-line coats were worn over luxurious high neck sweaters with skirts and cropped trousers forming a dramatic new silhouette. The collection bordered on aristocratic grandeur, yet hinted the avant-garde.
