Alberta Ferretti Spring 2013: Siren Song

Alberta Ferretti’s Spring 2013 collection was set against an organic backdrop of an underwater world to the tune of A Single Man by Abel Korzeniowski.
The show opened with pearly white dresses with a fluid ease featuring scale-like beading over translucent gossamer layers. Underneath the exquisite beading and embroidery was another layer of sheer nude organza.  This double-layering technique allows for movement of the body as the beading and sequins catch the light.
Delicate beading resembling seaweed crept up the wisp bodice of a slip cocktail dress with light-reflecting sequins separating the top and bottom with fringes of nude-colored beading reminiscent of a 1920s flapper dress.  Double layers of chiffon, tulle and organza over luminous sea aqua greens and deep underwater blues with sequined and beaded appliques added an aquatic element to the sleek-silhouetted evening gowns. There were clusters of seaweed appliqués, a gown made of sequined netting, and sheer peplums that appeared to float like jellyfish.
The show transitioned into a spectrum of deep underwater hues, as a beautiful aquamarine dress with large fish scale paillettes and a chiffon train at the back of the dress resembled a fish tail gliding through the water.  The entire collection captured the shimmer and movement of water so perfectly as to echo the view from beneath the deep blue sea.
