Erdem’s Hot House Flowers for Spring 2013

At the Erdem’s Spring 2013 Collection, even a power outage could not take away or diminish the enthusiasm for this extraordinary show. Erdem Moralioglu’s collection was filled with vibrant color and pattern mixes,  including out-of-this-world python and floral prints that radiated a strange sort of bizarre beauty down the runway.

Inspired by Zenna Henderson, one of the first female sci-fi writers. The collection portrays the story of a Woman Who Fell to Earth. Like Henderson’s novels, Erdem featured 1950’s silhouettes opening his show with a python printed sheath dress mixed with demure lace that was complemented by a matching jacket in a subtle shade of pastel blue. His ultra-femminine dresses embroidered with demure plastic lace or 3-D flowers on lace blouses and A-line skirts were rendered in searing DayGlo colors.

Erdem’s combination of pastels and vivid tones in neon orange, lemon, and cherry buds against blue lace on everything from a tulip-skirted halter dress to a ruffle-necked blouse somehow oddly complemented his ladylike silhouettes. A striking look was that of a floral halter dress with pink and orange flowers on a white background  made out of PVC that was adorned with fluorescent hot pink embroidery creating the illusion of lace.

The futuristic collection was unique and other-worldly, featuring artificial man-made elements to help narrate Erdem’s out of this world collection.
