Yeohlee Teng was born in Malaysia but she worked mostly in New York City, where she opened her fashion house YEOHLEE Inc. Her main belief on fashion is that is has to have functionality as well as style that are refined through time and process.
Her collections focused mostly on materials, maximizing the use of each individual fabric including the texture, weight, color, as well as cut and finishing. She believes highly in the magic of clothes and their geometric forms that can give the wearer a certain power.
Richard Martin, the curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, called Yeohlee as the most ingenious fashion designer today. Her collection is designed for the “urban nomad,” who requires adaptable, low maintenance clothing that still gives off a powerful impression in many different scenarios.
Many celebrities have been seen in the Yeohlee collection including the famous movie star Meryl Streep, Trisha Simmons and Farah Fawcett.
