Prabal Gurung was born in Singapore but was raised in Kathmandu, Nepal. He moved to New York to finish his studies at Parson’s after beginning his design career in New Delhi. Gurung spent 2 years with Cynthia Rowley’s design and her production teams. Not long after, he was named design director at the iconic Bill Blass and remained there for five years, until he established his own collection “Prabal Gurung”.
Among many of Gurung accomplishments, he was named goodwill ambassador of Maiti Nepal, a finalist of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award, honored as one of USA Network’s Character Approved Award and the recipient of the CFDA Swarovski Award for Womenswear.
Gurung collaborated with Target in 2013 as well as Mac Cosmetics for products launch in 2014.
His old-world technique along with great modernity both create a daringly powerful yet timeless collection. The architectural approach in each of his piece elevates him more than just a designer, he is an artist whose mission is to turn his vision into reality and leave a impressionable footprints in the fashion world.
