Phillip Lim was born in Thailand with Chinese heritage. His mother worked as a seamstress for a garment factory for long hours- something that his parents never wanted him to have to do.
Following his parent’s wishes, he majored in business in college but after three years in, he changed his major and graduated with a home economics degree. He began have the idea of designing clothes when he started working for an L.A. clothing line called “Development” in 1999 creating women’s wear.
Lim started his own label after working for Development for five years. His line of 3.1 Phillip Lim was a huge success and he became fairly popular in the fashion world. The perfect balance between sophistication and street-wear with a laid back style but still quiet edgy defines Lim’s many collections.
