Jonathan Simkhai Fall 2015: A Collection Tailored To New York

New York based, Jonathan Simkhai has quickly become the go to designer with his effortless approach to modern dressing with a nod to sportswear.  Simkhai creates delicately, beautiful pieces such as performance-inspired knits and bonded lace dresses that are sexy and feminine. These are the new essentials for a modern wardrobe with a twist and favorite of cool girls like  Kim Kardashian, Kristen Stewart and Drew Barrymore.

This season he drew inspiration from the competitive world of car racing creating head-to-toe looks in intricate lace patterns he termed “wire lace.” A sweatshirt, miniskirt and a punched through cut-out mini-dress with a figure eight tire track motif over sheer lace opened his show. These were often worn with sheer chiffon or mesh cigarette trousers.

His now signature mesh netting was cut into body-con dresses, with a lingerie-like effect in black, white, nude and pale pink.

A white silk sweatshirt over a slim skirt, were both printed with the oil stain graphic pattern.  Simkhai referred to a blush pink pencil skirt and cropped top as his oil drip set. These were followed by a caviar-beaded cutout dress which was both sexy and sporty.

The New York designer was recently invited to dress bottles of Californian Sauvignon Blanc from Santa Ynez. The black and white monochrome design for the wine labels and Club W boxes was inspired by the oil drip motif featured in the designer’s Fall 2015 Ready-to-wear collection.
