Isabel Marant’s Spring 2013: Presley Obsession

Isabel Marant’s love of American culture continues with her fascination this season with Elvis Presley for Spring/Summer 2013. Hawaiian influences and Las Vegas style came together in an easy and summer wardrobe with a distinct bohemian Parisian flare.

Marant’s embellished jeans and lacy separates reappeared this spring with different motifs, including hibiscus or a paisley print with silver or red studs. The show followed the chronological style of Elvis Presley beginning first with his early Hawaiian days and concluding with his Las Vegas era.

The first model out on the runway wore a beautiful black and white abstract hibiscus, one shoulder sarong dress embroidered with red thread, accessorized with a white leather studded belt and colorful beaded wood bracelets along with studded high heel sandals.

Following the hibiscus print there was an obvious shift to the Las Vegas stage. A look resembling Elvis Presley’s 1970’s white beaded jumpsuit, came down the runway. Marant then continued with the hibiscus motif, beading hibiscus flowers onto a white, boxy, 3/4 sleeve blouse, worn with white bell bottom pants studded along the seams.

Marant created some of her best pieces yet, as in super short dresses and strapless swimsuits shown in both the abstract, hibiscus Hawaiian print with red embroidery or a white studded Las Vegas look. The swimwear is a perfect addition to her ready-to-wear collection, just in time for her big L.A store opening early next year.
