All You Need For Fall 2016 is Just a Little Duckie Brown

This season the designers Steven Cox & Daniel Silver of Duckie Brown pared down their men’s collection to just six strong looks.  “We just wanted an edited show,” said Silver before the show.” The collection’s title, Just a Little Duckie,  make sense in today’s world, where men are now struggling with an over  abundance of options. The basis for their fall runway show is suiting. “I started with a sketch of a black suit,”  said Mr. Cox. This blueprint was expanded into six looks using four different fabrics. A black suit, a grey flannel suit, a navy peacoat and crisp white shirting that doubles as outerwear. The shirts in the line are not only shirts; they are outerwear. Yes, they are made of shirting fabric, and yes they are white, but these pieces bring new meaning to the term multi-functional dressing. “When a man wears a suit, why does he have to wear a white shirt under it?” Mr. Cox inquired. “Could he wear a piece of outerwear under it instead? “It’s real menswear,” said Cox. “We’ve done womenswear for men for so long, and it’s now happening for men in the mainstream, so it was time to go back.”

For more than a decade Cox and Silver of Duckie Brown have been blurring the gender lines  and questioning what constitutes menswear? What constitutes womenswear? “What makes a fabric women’s?” He asks, why is chiffon women’s and why is it not men’s? Now suddenly, all the major labels are following their lead. “We were suddenly on trend!” said Daniel Silver, Mr. Cox’s partner in both life and business.
