Worshiping at the House of Givenchy Spring 2013

Riccardo Tisci reached back to his Roman Catholic roots for inspiration mining many of the symbols from the catholic church and introducing a new iconography using saints and the holy mother herself for Givenchy‘s Mens Spring collection. A screened-print of the Virgin Mary on chiffon was layered over a printed shirt creating an almost 3D portrait. This was just one of many variations used throughout. The collection radiated a soft angelic look as both male and female models walked the runway resembling ghosts wearing black and white screened-prints of the Virgin Mary on flowing white blouses, satin bombers and finely tailored suits. Religion was not the only thing Tisci brought to the collection this season, he also makes you think about what is considered masculine and feminine.
