Donatella Versace Keeps it Clan with Tartans and Prints

Donatella Versace did what she does best for Fall 2018, put on a fierce show with her own spin on punk and show stopping glamour. The fashion powerhouse riffed on the ever-popular punk trend, sending out frayed, patchwork plaids and tartans, and balancing them with ultra tailored double breasted coats. Colorful tartans in cobalt blue, red and striking yellow were set beneath structured double breasted coats in sensible neutrals adorned with gilded pins and brooches. Others came in the form of school girl-esque uniforms with pleated miniskirts worn with tall argyle socks and oversized varsity scarves. The western trend also came into play, in the form of dark, indigo denim, high collared shirts, and golden metal studded accents. Even the more formal looks sported a bit of punk insouciance with clashing tartan prints, juxtaposed with brightly patterned stockings.

Corsets are another major trend for fall and Versace’s version of the curve hugging, hourglass body shaper was layered over graphic tees and paired with over-the-top voluminous patterned skirts for a rebellious take on the high flying 80s. Though the pattern play and zany eclecticism were key elements of the collection this season, Donatella never forgets about the sex factor. A heavy dose of thigh, high slits and figure hugging silhouettes, successfully blended the provocative silhouettes with a sense of youthful rebellion.

A capsule of “little black dresses” offer a high level of polish, without sacrificing that much sought-after sex factor. Donatella is no doubt back on her game with her latest collection, and shows no signs of slowing down.

Fiercer and bolder than ever — Donatella Versace did what she does best this season with show stopping glamour and opulence.
