The Evolution of a Cult Menswear Label

Rick Owens is perhaps the perfect combination of artist and storyteller. This season the cutting edge designer opens up about the chaos in the world today with a show focused on the evolution of menswear. To open his men’s show in Paris at the Palais de Tokyo, Owens sent out models displaying plenty of skin, fitted with abstract architectural inspired garments sculpted around their bodies.

The garments featured transparent mesh, adjustable drawstring ties, and survivalist paracord accessories.  As the show progressed, so did the looks, becoming more complex and in many ways, more refined. Deconstructed jackets were deliberate and persuasive, and for Owens, the suit jacket represents … a respectful uniform, a symbol of civilization.”  “Blazers — we just need them. For this time in history that has gotten so chaotic and so divisive and so sordid, I think we need to polish it up a little bit,” said Owens. Other takeaways include shorts for men, high-waisted trousers, and built in technical accessories.
