Style Trendsetters Rock Public School’s Spring 2016 Mens Collection

Public School created the ultimate perp walk for their Spring 2016 men’s collection with a police lineup modeled by a cast of characters, like Twin Shadow’s Gordon Lewis Jr., street style maven Nick Wooster and cool teen™ ( Yeezy Season 1 model) Luka Sabbat. The police lineup theme helped to accentuate their signature monochromatic looks in cool combinations of baseball, skater, and business chic with a mix and match sensibility.

“We wanted to promote the idea of unity amongst people of all different cultures and races, especially in these times.” “Creating a backdrop that normally contextualizes and marginalizes a specific group of people reinforces the need of this kind of solidarity, shaking up the traditional notions and images of who you would normally assume to see in this setting. But we’re really all the same when we’re lined up side by side,” Chow and Osborne said in a statement.

Public School’s mash-up of streetwear tinged menswear has garnered the duo, not one but two recent CFDA design awards for menswear and their women’s line. Their sharp tailoring, along with soft jackets and trench coats, blazers and shorts are all infused with a distinct streetwise attitude that is part of the allure. The strict palette and minimal riff on white, navy and black this season also introduced must-have staples such as long coats, sleeveless jackets and button-down shirts. A highlight was a voluminous short-sleeve hooded white jacket paired with a windowpane shirt and pleated white trousers. Some were rendered into bomber jackets, tees and tailored long shorts worn below the knees. “We’re trying to build a Public School uniform,” Chow added, pointing to the “sharp tailoring mixed with athletic cues where we play with proportion and a whole bunch of attitude.” As pioneers of the “athleisure trend” that’s dominated menswear for the past couple years, the designers included staples like reverse layering, re-imagined sportswear for the street or taking a meeting, and exclusive Generic Man sneakers.  It was genius in many ways and perfect for building a cohesive closet, one piece at a time.
