Off-White Fall 2018: Gets Down to Business

“Business Casual” Takes on a Whole New Meaning at Off-White

When your day job is boring enough, but you still need to get down to business and look professional — the typical business suit offerings are almost too much to bare. This season, Virgil Abloh takes on the corporate wardrobe crisis by revisiting classic workwear and vintage pieces for a fresh take on “Business Casual”. The stereotypical shirt and tie is dressed down with a cobalt blue windbreaker straight out of the 1980’s. One model carried a garment bag of what we assume to be dry-cleaning; a true testament to the 9-5 man.

Virgil Abloh infuses the obvious wardrobe staples like suit jackets and trousers, with a youthful vibe taking inspiration from the omni-present 80s and 90s and current street styles. Business casual trousers are packed with pouch pockets and long slouchy hemlines that take on a cargo inspired silhouette. Revamped suit jackets come in cropped styles with notched lapels, and oversized anoraks with blingy hardware and zipper detailing, scream “casual Friday.” In another look, retro inspired light-wash denim jeans worn with a t-shirt, and brown leather jacket illustrate the ultimate 90’s cool girl look.

Off-white’s discreet details catapult each piece into hype-worthy merch with subtle embroidery, logos, and custom spray painted sets. Buttons on dress shirt are angled for an asymmetric look that lends a “too cool for school” attitude to the clothes, while head-to-toe monochromatic color stories dominate the collection. Whether tops and bottoms are true matching sets, or simply similar colors paired together, the monochrome trend was pervasive throughout the Off-White collection.
