NYFW Fall 2014 : The Ones to Watch – En Noir’s Tough New Minimalism

For Fall 2014  En Noir Pièce de résistance was an asymmetrical snake skin leather jacket with his signature En Noir zipper on the right breast. All looks were paired with tailored distressed black denim and black leather oxfords. This ensemble highlights Garcia’s surgical razor-sharp tailoring skills.

En Noir’s creator Rob Garcia keeps his street sensibility in mind above all else when designing new pieces for his collection. This mindset has been fundamental in making his line unstoppable since its debut in 2012.

Prior to launching his own line, Garcia designed for SanFran label Black Scale. However, he didn’t always envision himself owning a clothing line. Inspired by his father, a pro skater, Garcia pursued a career in football signing with San Diego State. But after several bone-crushing injuries, he re-evaluated his passions and started designing high-fashion street wear.  En Noir Fall 2014

Why is En Noir’s street wear so popular?

It’s not just because Kanye, Drake, and 2Chainz are amongst his loyal clientele (although it certainly helps) but, no, En Noir’s popularity is heavily linked to Garcia’s love of the skateboarding culture, his pursuit of clinically precise lines, monochromatic hues and his absolute disregard of the status quo.

“The branding comes through in the details” states the designer. And Garcia’s penchant for a minimalistic approach to luxury sportswear is absolutely paying off  for him. Garcia was recently recognized by GQ as one of the best new menswear designers in America and his line has been picked up by Barney’s New York, SSence and many U.S. retail boutiques as well as boutiques in Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, and Italy.

There is no doubt En Noir’s Robert Garcia is amongst the most exciting designers to watch list this season. His future looks brilliant to us.
