The Best London Trends for Spring 2014

There was something conspicuously missing from the men’s shows in London: the traditionally tailored suit. Maybe it’s due to the nerve fraught economic depression we are living in, but difficult times demand a more frivolous look to help lighten the mood.

Economic crisis aside, this is a sombre era, yet despite the gloom and doom, fashion is resisting the dark mood and splurging on color color and deliberately more relaxed sportswear.

While we’re in no way back to the ultra skinny suits created by Hedi Slimane at Dior Homme in the early 90s, the suits presented on the Spring Summer 2014 catwalks are tight fitting and shall we say, almost nerdy. The ‘new nerd’ sources his clothes with the greatest of care, and takes time to co-ordinate his iPad case and man bag to his shirt or suit as seen at Burberry; Hackett; Christopher Kane; Jonathan Saunders; Paul Smith and Tom Ford. The new suiting features an unmistakable casual sensibility, roomier pants and natty blazers that look both tidy and nonchalant.  Accessorize with no-lace trainers and large satchel bags or a trim briefcase.
