Landlord Spring 2019: Be Nice to Nerds

Landlord’s Ryohei Kawanishi dove deep into 90s nostalgia and focused his Spring 2019 men’s collection on net-surfing as opposed to actual surfing. The collection titled “Be Nice to Nerds” stems from a quote by Microsoft’s founder Bill Gates. A handful of nerdy tech references were seen in the reflective stripes and matte-tech cottons patched onto the pockets of pant legs and t-shirts that overlapped slightly in a nod to scattered open windows in Windows 95.

The models sported skate and surf style ultra-light nylon shorts, pants and jumpsuits decorated with contrasting zippers and color-blocked panels spliced with bold fabric combinations. Long dangling straps and colorful accents on everything from oversized bombers with neon pockets to cargo pants infused the reimagined workwear staples with a youthful, vibrant edge.

Kawanishi also designed a capsule collection in collaboration with the Cartoon Network’s “Adventure Time” series. Pieces include a varsity jacket with Shmowzow! emblazoned on a sleeve, and an embroidered BMO patch appliquéd to a screen-printed painting of peonies. The spring lineup also featured collabs with top streetwear brands like Alpha Industries, Kosuke Tsumura, Blackmeans, and Novesta.
