San Francisco native John Elliott debuted his Fall 2015 collection at Skylight Clarkson Square in Manhattan with his first major runway show. His brand, launched just two years ago has quickly built a cult following, including the likes of Rap super star Kanye West, Los Angeles Lakers’ Nick Young, and New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz to name a few who were in attendance.
The line encompasses a modern, laid back aesthetic that speaks volume about style and fit. Sporty and, comfortable are two words that come to mind. The collection however can easily be dressed up or down from sporty casual wear to sartorial chic by simply layering the right pieces together. Elliott reached back to the future with new iterations of a Wool Bomber and a Stadium Jacket that helped to illustrate the authenticity and heritage of the line. The clean lines and technical fabrics used in the Hooded Tech Poncho and Fishtail Raincoat kept us grounded and in the moment.
While the Dark, but never dismal Villain Hood was a key staple used throughout out his show layered over many of the ensembles in a monochromatic fashion. The slim fit with short sleeves and stylish vertical Riri side zippers serve to conceal a hidden kangaroo pocket and resonated loudly with many top athletes who wore the villain hood at his show. John Elliott is definitely one to watch next season and beyond. His innovative revamping of treasured all American classics sets him apart from the crowd.
