Rihanna flexed her design prowess this season, introducing a fresh new take on streetwear for the fashion-conscious in her Fenty x Puma Spring 2018 Collection. The fashion spectacle featured daredevil BMX stuntmen, giant millennial pink sand dunes and a hyper-athletic mash-up of surf, motocross, rock climbing and extreme sports. The fetishization of the X Games and hyper-athletic-meets-sex-appeal may be a new concept, but if you’re Rihanna it’s an everyday aesthetic. Rihanna’s Instagram handle is BadGalRiRi for a reason.

Model Slick Woods, who now fronts Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty line and walked for both Fenty and Marc Jacobs during New York Fashion Week, rode in on the back of a motocross bikes to open the show. The super model lineup included Adriana Lima, Joan Smalls, Stella Maxwell, Kaia Gerber and Duckie Thot who came out wearing sleek biker short ensembles and scuba onesies topped with windbreakers and hoodies. There were cyclist racing tights, high-cut swimwear, and baggy tracksuits trimmed with industrial size zippers, adjusters, utility buckles, and corset style lace-up bodices with sporty mesh. Elements of surf, motocross, and rock climbing appeared at the heart of each look.

The words “wet” and “drowning” were emblazoned across one piece French-cut swimsuits and nylon track pants paired with hi-tech anoraks, replacing the athleisure uniform of leggings and a bomber. Rihanna experimented with a play on proportions, sending out baggy bottoms paired with sculpted body-con tops in addition to exposing lots of hip cleavage induced by high-rise swimsuits- a theme in New York at Tom Ford, Jeremy Scott, Chromat, and Kith. Her menswear emphasized heavily oversized silhouettes and a strong selection of outerwear. There isn’t a look in this collection you won’t spot Rihanna wearing, which adds to her authenticity and speaks to millennials’ no bullshit attitude. As if that weren’t enough, BadGalRiRi lived up to her Instagram handle, closing the show with a victory lap on the back of a motorcycle, blowing kisses and throwing horns up.
