Karl Lagerfeld’s Bouquets of Florals Adorned An Exotic Array of Gowns

Karl Lagerfeld’s Fendi Haute Couture show was a fluttery floral fantasy that truly put his ateliers to the test. A crochet shawl consisting of 9,000 small circles sewn together took 1,250 hours to sew by hand. A cocoon dress was made entirely out of 10,000 small, multicolored shaved mink circles.

Lagerfeld found unique ways to use fur. Shaved mink was added to flower detailing for a 3D effect, while others were made to look like velvet. There were also bold fur looks, some with crochet cutouts like a coral-dyed fur dress, or hand painted flowers on fur.

Almost every look was either sheer or constructed out of see-through lace, complete with realistic flowers, mink and feather details on delicate capes. Mega models like Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Adwoa Aboah, and Vittoria Ceretti, who closed the show in the timed honored marriage bridal look, carried purses that looked like flower bouquets and wore mules with giant furry pom poms or flowers on the ankles. The show closed with a standing ovation and Lagerfeld taking three bows that were well earned.

In delicate wings of fabric, the silhouettes unfurl like precious petals. Fur coats and gowns cocoon at the shoulders and fall into fishtail points. Heart shapes abound, draping into soft capes, contoured sleeves and winged skirts.
