Extreme Fashion at London’s Mens Fashion Week Fall 2013

At Alexander McQueen royal ceremonial heritage was mixed with a louche gangster vibe with details such as deliberate pinstripes serving as a dominant trend throughout the collection. There was also a softer, more luxurious side as evidenced by wool robes worn over silk dressing gowns and impeccably tailored suits rendered in imperial stained glass prints which stood out among the solid suits.

Christopher Kane’s monstrous collection literally had him transposing the faces of Frankenstein, Count Dracula,The Mummy and the Creature from the Black Lagoon onto T-Shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts which are sure to be a big hit with the younger set.

Skinny jeans and slippers were used as the base of almost every look and were then layered with python printed car coats, cropped quilted jackets and cardigans all in a graphic black and white palette. A more polished dressed up look included a razor-sharp peacoat paired with tailored blue velvet trousers and finished with a blue leopard print scarf.

At Sibling a catwalk motif on the opening look read ‘PLEASE KILL ME’ rendered in flowers on over sized sweaters echoed the slogan of the 70s punk rock band, the Sex Pistols. The collection took mohair to extremes with super-sized knits carried through to the hats, enormous scarves and boxing style mitts.

Models came out layered up in the thickest knits possible with scarves that fell almost down the floor with mushroom-shaped hats that slunk down on top of their heads which resembled mushrooms.

Sweaters came in pink and black, powder blue and their signature leopard print in either black and white or pink and black worn with knit shorts or fuzzy mohair short pants.

Things were getting flat Bates mused. “So we added more texture.” It came in the form of footballer  gridiron style knits and an abundance of fuzzy mohair. Sibling offers an provocative and playful alternative to the usual boring knit sweater.
