Giorgio Armani took to the Italian slopes for his Fall 2019 Emporio Armani collection inspired by winter sports, but made for an intrepid urban explorer. His show notes for his collection entitled ‘Liberty’ is “designed for a hybrid habitat,” and is “sporty, but urban at its core.” Designing for the well dressed man of the jet-set variety is essentially what Armani does best. And his superluxe, winter sports themed collection with touches of the exotic led to a standout collection.
A new sporty way of dressing for the city is the aim of this collection with technically inspired clothing in materials that look organic with tons of eco-friendly fur and knits. The show opened with a monochromatic black ensemble consisting of a casual version of a hybrid jogger-trouser, and an oversized textured sweater, sleek hiking boots, fitted gloves, and a giant wool bumbag swung across the chest. Next a series of relaxed three-piece knit jersey suits gave off a louche, sophisticated vibe, but are also polished enough for the office. Both formal and casual trousers in the collection were cinched at the ankles mimicking joggers, and were paired with either crisp shirts and a tie, or flawlessly cut winter topcoats.
A selection from Armani’s ultra-popular EA7 sports brand were seamlessly interwoven with looks for the office, and at times topped with enormous shaggy faux-fur coats. The all-white sporty separates accessorized with snowboards and skis are a perfect example of the collection’s duality. At times the clothes hinted at ski attire, but are actually equally as practical for hitting the streets. The outerwear of course was one of the most exciting parts of the collection. There were mountain-rescue parkas, and down jackets in water-repellent velvet, bombers, and the most luxurious faux fur vests, anoraks, and longline coats. Other animal-inspired elements included faux yak moccasin boots and stoles, snakeskin and crocodile pressed leather jackets and vests, in addition to wild animal graphics printed on t-shirts. Armani’s impeccably refined silhouettes are the reason men can always rely on him to look their best.
