Dries Van Noten Fal 2013: Birds of Paradise

image

Dries Van Noten’s latest collection brought together two opposing worlds: the softness of  sensual tactile fabrics and the rigid, clean lines of menswear and mens fabrications to create a rare and beautiful hybrid for fall 2013. Van Noten combined luxurious feathers, sparkling bijoux, and vivid embroidery against classic men’s fabrics like plaids and sartorial wools, all rendered in soft, yet structured silhouettes.

Daywear gets a whole lot more interesting as Van Noten sent out a plaid sheath dress speckled with ostrich plumes, challenging the norm of traditional daywear with its fun and playful elements.

Continuing with a borrowed from the boys theme, Van Noten sent out a heather-grey track jacket with silver embroidery over a pair of relaxed wool trousers.

In yet another unconventional look, a collarless brocade jacket is layered over a masculine white shirt, and anchored by a pencil skirt over cropped flannel trousers. These looks radiate a masculine energy, yet still preserve the elegance and femininity of a woman.

Dries Van Noten treated us to perfect evening looks from a white shirt paired with a navy skirt trailing with plumes of ostrich over grey flannel pants, to a stunning black slash tunic with a sheer skirt accentuated by ostrich feathers at the hip.

Dries Van Noten’s mixing of classic men’s fabrics juxtaposed with supremely feminine elements and surface treatments created an elegant collection with ineffable wearability for the modern woman.
