Karl Lagerfeld’s Latest Shoot for Chanel’s Haute Couture Fall 2016

Karl Lagerfeld’s latest Shoot for Chanel’s Haute Couture Fall 2016 collection captures the youthful energy that he has infused into the fashion house.  The silhouettes were ultra-sleek, with strong shoulders serving as the unifying theme.  The sculpted shoulders came bevelled or angular with an extreme tapered line or a single sharp angle.  There were feathers protruding from shoulders and hems, and skirts that flared out dramatically.

Trousers and culottes, were kept wide and often cropped for easy movement.  These were paired with a range of new jackets in varying shapes and lengths to assemble new, modern iterations of the Chanel suit.  The rich, fall color palette  of brown, orange, beige and gray is highlighted by pops of pink, black and white.  For evening wear, Lagerfeld took his cues from 19th-century English author Aubrey Beardsley.  Beardsley’s signature black-and-white illustrations, were translated into high waists, voluminous cuts, intricate embroidery and beading.
