Glamorous, Yet Woodsy
Chanel’s Fall 2018 collection was everything and enchanted huntress could possibly want for fall. Presented in a dense, wooded venue, with fallen leaves, and a slight melancholic, yet equally cozy mood. The show embodied the outdoorsy autumnal nostalgia, this time, leveled out with a dose of classic Chanel glamour.
Designer Karl Lagerfeld tempered the enchanted forest with a refined collection of matching separates, sensible footwear, and practical outerwear. From car coats to puffers, outerwear arguably stole the show, offering a style for every occasion, every wardrobe. Of course, it wouldn’t be Chanel without their trademark tweed. Although the design house has been marked by the fabric for decades, Lagerfeld continues to infuse modern elements in the form of trims and silhouettes in order to keep the looks fresh, yet undeniably Chanel. Though the looks carried an air of elegance and refinery, there was a certain ease to their wearability. The idea of effortlessly pairing a jacket with it’s coordinating bottom argues everything the fashion crowd has been leaning into with the street style craze; however, proposes a new ease to getting dressed. no more second guessing when two pieces were meant to be together — that’s something we can get behind.
Holding a common thread of structured and ladylike, almost demure Edwardian inspired ensembles. Billowy sleeves, romantic ruffles and lace, rich metallics, and thigh high boots were particular standouts this season. Emphasized shoulders were a highlight as well; dramatic drapes and voluminous feathers cascaded down, providing a strong, geometric silhouette. Mismatched earrings and intricately draped jewelry were piled onto the already densely layered looks and added to the quirky allure.
Somewhere between polished and bohemian, Lagerfeld hit all the right notes for autumn. Despite all the elegance, Lagerfeld managed to incorporate some aspects of street style with hoodies and thigh high boots. Oversized outerwear, pants, and culotte silhouettes briefly referenced the street style scene as well, tempered with slim shimmery tights and crop tops to balance. The show wound down with a selection of feminine lace and tulle gowns and LBD’s — trademark Chanel. This season though,“all black everything” was paired with sumptuous eye-catching leather gloves in multiple color ways and slouchy, oversized clutches tucked underneath the model’s arms. Summer might be just around the corner, but even so, we cant help but crave the brisk autumn days in the months to come after Lagerfeld’s latest and greatest for the house of Chanel.
