Altuzarra Fall 2012
By Argenis Genis
Joseph Altuzarra received rave reviews at New York fashion week for his romp around the world that centered around Corto Maltese, a comic book hero from the 60’s who was a sailor that traveled all around the world and picking up treasure from every place he visited. Such as the coins and charms he used on a many of the pieces in his fall collection. His prints included Moroccan carpet patterns in red-orange and yellow and a variety of Indian and North African references combined with terrific tailoring and an abundance of heavenly knits. A Tibetan influenced black and white embroidered motif with red pompoms was used throughout on various sweaters. Fabulous fur pea coats, velvet blazers and shearling toggle coats were finished and cut to perfection. Towards the end of the show there were trois très chic little black dresses that gave off l’air de France. This was a very strong collection from a young designer who took us on a wonderful journey to distance lands.
