From day wear to evening gowns, white ensembles were a major hit at the spring 2014 Milan shows. Designers mixed white with translucent fabrics to create airy, peek-a-boo style dresses that radiated sex appeal without having to bare it all.

At Alberta Ferretti, a white eyelet dress with transparent cotton voile sleeves was cinched at the waist with a red belt. While Blumarine’s lace dress with sheer polka dotted sleeves added an element of 60s charm and innocent romance.

Versace’s punk inspired skater dresses were both playful and edgy, as circle skirts crafted out of raffia were overlaid with a translucent, silk gossamer layer that revealed tanned skin underneath. A laser cut, white, leather strapless dress at Fendi was shown with a transparent white T-shirt. “Its a very light collection,” explained Silvia Fendi “the base is almost transparent organza.”

Salvatore Ferragamo and Costume National focused on the art of deconstructed tailoring. An asymmetrical wrap dress incorporated the lapel of a jacket at Costume National. While Salvatore Ferragamo’s white trench was worn with a cropped top and a layered asymmetrical skirt with volume.

White stood out among a sea of sporty luxe separates. Jil Sander stayed true to her minimalistic aesthetic, pairing a vented cropped top with a high-waisted skirt. Marni embellished a sleeveless tunic and skirt with precious jewels encrusted, 3-D petal applique.

A supple V-neck tunic with handkerchief hem at Sportmax is paired with a mid-length tennis skirt. The perfect white cotton summer dress at Ports 1961 features gathered pleats that hug the hips and cascades down to a voluminous full skirt, creating a classic look that is both sporty and feminine. DSquared2’s luxurious white silk damask gown evokes an hourglass shape and is accented at the waist by an origami bow.

Emilio Pucci’s sexy, body skimming white jersey column dress features intricate cut-outs on the sides and on the sleeves. The trick to wearing all white this summer is to make sure textures contrast to keep your look from becoming staid. Skip the tight, body fitting silhouettes and opt for full skirts and relaxed trousers with volume.
