From New York to Paris, eggplant and nearly full-on black lipstick is a key autumn/winter lip trend.  Black Lipstick is not just for goths anymore, the stark look showed up on the catwalks of Marc Jacobs, Giles, Emanuel Ungaro and Ermanno Scervino.  Brooding looks wouldn’t be complete without black. Nail the look with black lips – there’s no better way to declare your inner goth.  Style is everything – it’s all any girl needs this season, maybe ever.

Emanuel Ungaro

This season the focus was on models’ lips said Lucia Peroni.  Working with MAC Cosmetics, she created a “slightly overdrawn” mouth using a Lip Pencil in Currant and Lipmix in Burgundy.  The collection designed by Fausto Pugliese for Ungaro had models wearing trilby hats with variations of Le smoking tuxedo.  Fashion stylist, Arianne Phillips termed the sophisticated ‘80s collection “Frenchy Frenchness.”

Giles

Think schoolgirl-turned-rebellious goth and you’re on the right track for fall. Makeup artist Lucia Pieroni set bold, black lips against porcelain faces. ”There’s lots of shading around the eye and cheeks, but it’s so subtle and soft that it’s barely detectable,” she explained. The lips were prepped with MAC’s Ebony pencil for opacity, followed by Pro Lipmix in Black and Burgundy and a touch of clear gloss to create a precise, shiny lip that echoed the nails. Boyish, straight brows completed Giles’ Georgian vision.

Ermanno Scervino

The deeper the color, the better says makeup artist Jessica Nedza for Mac Cosmetics.  Always pair an intense femme-fatale dark lipstick with bold, well-groomed brows. The darker the lip, the bolder the brow should be. Balance the look with minimal shadow and little or no mascara. Your lips will be the focal point, so keep the rest of your makeup soft by toning down the eyes. Start with a flawless complexion and just a touch of blush on the apples of your cheeks. Makeup overload is not the goal here, as a dark lip look can quickly go from vamp to tramp.
