The Top Mens Spring 2017 Trends: 90s New Wave is Back

90s Fashion Is Here To Stay

90s fashion is officially back and so are the hairstyles as seen at many of the top men’s runway shows. The New Wave of electronic music took elements of punk and mixed it with aspects of mod culture and glam rock. Fashion wise it was at its most bold and held a deep fascination with electronics, style, and art. Musically, it was experimental and incorporated the use of electronic synthesizers. Dudes wore make-up, skinny ties, and all manner of weird tailoring characterized by the quirky style of New Wave dance music.

The advent of MTV in the 80s helped spur what has been referred as the second British invasion. Almost overnight, the old club uniform of Levi’s 501s, Dr Martens was replaced by clothes that were loose and quite easy to dance in, with hair that was cool and sexy and hadn’t seen a barber for quite some time. Where post-punk was arty, difficult, and challenging, new wave was pop music, pure and simple. The genre retained the fresh vigor and irreverence of punk music, but was a lot more stylistically diverse.  90s fashion isn’t just having a brief renaissance: it’s here to stay.
