Phillip Plein’s Explosive High-Octane Fashion Show Featured Rich the Kid, Migos and Supermodel Irina Shayk

In a social media prominent world where Kim Kardashian may have a bigger impact on trends/fashion/people than Anna Wintour, the most Instagram-worthy things are what make the headlines. Philipp Plein knows this better than anyone else, with his outrageous fashion spectacles that are more about the performance than the actual clothes; He certainly outdid himself for Fall 2018’s Olympics-meets-space odyssey show.

The show kicked off with a literal bang with a bulldozer crashing through aluminum foil boulders, snowmobiles, a performance by Migos, and a talking robot. As if that weren’t over the top enough, a giant, laser shooting, fog spewing UFO descended upon the snowy set. Irina Shayk emerged to hold hands with a robot serenading her whilst taking a lap before the rest of the models came out. Adding to the action was a double amputee that sprinted around the models. The clothes themselves looked like if Barbarella went skiing and snowboarding. If you forgot you were at a Philipp Plein show, his name plastered on everything in big, bold, glitzy font served as a constant reminder.

Philipp Plein is utterly Philipp Plein- almost too outrageous to believe. Let’s face it, Philipp Plein’s shows are not about the clothes. It’s about the performance. It was excessive, audacious, yet utterly captivating. Is this sci-fi spectacular foreshadowing what is to become of the fashion world?
