There’s a lesson to be learned in how to build a wardrobe. In that spirit, we rounded up the coolest iterations of blue to add to your wardrobe now.

Menswear Spring Summer 2015 was marked by the prevalence and preference for the color blue with denim making a major comeback. While blue has always been a foundational color for men, the new iterations are endless and were seen on the top men’s catwalk from London to Paris. For starters, take a look at Antonio Marras who gets our attention with spectrum of blue hues in a jacket and shorts ensemble. Valentino handsomely cloaks a navy blue suit with a lightweight overcoat that features a novel burgundy collar. Burberry breathes new life into an oversized double-breasted navy jacket by adding a teal hat with matching sneaker for a dash of panache.

Coordinating blue separates are another investment worthy idea to consider. These can be worn together or mixed with other pieces to extend the life of your wardrobe. Check out Costume National’s classic powder blue three-piece suit and suede two-piece leisure suit. Dior keeps it regal with a navy, one button, double-breasted suit. Christophe Lemaire’s effortless blue denim camp shirt and long roomy shorts paired with crème slipper work well for any occassion.

Blue tonal color blocking is a relatively new idea with many of the big designers championing the trend. Fendi assembles the perfect wardrobe for the weekend traveler with a fetching navy suit, worn over a blue color blocked T-shirt. Giorgio Armani parallels the trend with a slim tailored navy suit with matching striped cardigan, worn underneath. These looks transform easily from the office to evening when paired with strappy sandals and brown leather weekend bag.

The debate of the decade amongst men has been which of the colors blue or black is sartorially better; this season designers have responded unanimously. Blue and black are equal shades. Rather than discounting one or the other designers have found a way to incorporate both, rightly breaking from tradition. Blue and black together create a strikingly confident demeanor when paired together. Casely Hayford executes the latter through a navy suit edged with black lapels and black loafers. The ideal look for a dinner or cocktail party.

Classic and versatile are now regularly used in the same sentence, especially if you’re talking about variations of blue. The summer 2015 season has been elevated by classics that can easily be re-purposed to work with the addition of modern pieces. Jonathan Saunders meshes a classic powder blue suit with a tech jacket. Tom Ford’s blue jacquard evening tuxedo jacket is worn with premium raw denim jeans for a festive evening outing.

Paul Smith mixes stripes and florals in his super chill, relaxed, silky summer collection. And Missoni offers the perfect summer lightweight suit in blue madras, while Neil Barrett keeps it chic in all black worn under a cobalt blue hybrid bomber jacket. Etro also hits the mark with the perfect checked summer suit that you will pull out season after season. Philipp Lim’s globe trotting world traveler sports an indigo wrapped kimono top, a single-breasted trench coat, or a smart three-button jacket. Prada western style jackets have a tailored slim cut and are outlined in contrasting stitchdetails. Vivienne Westwood’s stunning optical checked patterned suit features a vertical turquoise stripe and is broken up by a red slip-on city loafer.

Blue sportswear staples can look ultra-modern and edgy by opting an oversize fit, as seen at Juun J. For an added visual effect, Kenzo offers an exaggerated baby blue anorak coat over stonewashed jeans. Kris Van Assche’s plays on gray and blue hues resulted in a new hybrid jacket, and trouser suit, and a short suit ensemble. Raf Simons constructs a smoky blue tunic adorned in buttons over white trousers. Sibling’s jacket makes a grand statement in an obsidian blue and white swirled diamond print.

Flamboyance and blue work quite well together when executed properly. Cavalli assembles pant and jacket separates with snakeskin tops and blue mesh jerseys as layers underneath. Sacai juxtaposes streetwear with preppy pieces and prints, that stand out in exuberant electric blue.
