Fall 2013 Trends: New York Style Grunge

image

New York grunge is back, bigger and better than ever as New York designers sent out devil-may-care looks so grimy and grungy they would surely make Kurt Cobain proud. DKNY’s off the shoulder, leopard print sweater-dress is worn with a smaller print shirt that epitomizes the mix and match ethos that grunge is all about. Edun mixed a red flannel turtle neck top with a leather motorcycle vest worn over a knee length dirndl skirt. At Custo Barcelona, a pair of borrowed from the boys, masculine dropped crotch, black and white plaid trousers are pared with a matching short sleeve Aztec beaded crew neck top. BCBG went even further creating the ultimate grunge must-have look by layering a cropped leather jacket over a grey sweater dress worn on top of a patterned cool girl tunic and brown leather leggings. 3.1 Phillip Lim sent out a rolled collar, angora knit sweater-dress in a dark hue that looked straight from the 90s. In a folksy, feminine take on the classic 90s look Steven Alan presented a grey flannel, double breasted jacket over a long dress with horizontal bands of blue and green roses on a black background. Tracy Reese offered a more sensible approach with plaid tuxedo jacket over a pleated black skirt and white blouse. Y-3 specializes in grunge and regularly features plaid as a mainstay of the brand sending out a pair of plaid trousers with oversized pockets worn with a lambskin baseball jacket and lug soled shoes.
