Moncler Men’s Fall 2017

Moncler Gamme Bleu x Thom Browne Alpine Hiking Fashion Set

Thom Browne has a penchant for staging the most dramatic, outrageous fashion shows you’ve ever seen. Instead of simply decorating the runway, Browne builds an immersive fantasy world in which to debut each collection. “I always like to give a backstory,” he said. “You all see so much, but if we give you a story, that’s something that hopefully stays with you when you leave–something you remember.”

Last season, the theme for Thom Browne’s Spring 2017 collection for Moncler Gamme Bleu was based on the all American Boy Scouts. In that collection, he dressed  a few models as bears surrounding a campground set, complete with grass, trees, and pup tents. Highlighting Moncler’s strength in outerwear, Browne conjured up a winter wonderland for his Fall 2017 mountaineering/hiking themed menswear show. More snow steadily fell as models bound together with rope slowly tromped down a fake snow covered runway through a forest of real pine trees wearing fine padded wool suits, maxi puffers, and thick hand finished knits that celebrate the manly art of hiking.

The mountaineering theme didn’t end there – There were more carabiners than you could possibly count and no shortage of BDSM style binding rope, both on and off the garments. The models walk was severely restricted by rope that bound their legs together. “It directed the design,” Browne added. “I wanted to take that detail and use it in non-expected ways.” Fake fur beards and red tinted ski goggles drove home the mountaineering fantasy deeper into reality.

As of this writing, Moncler has recently announced they are shuttering their Gamme Bleu and Gamme Rouge lines. The Spring 2018 collections will be the last.
