Maison Margiela Couture Beauty Spring 2017: Artisanal 3D Makeup

Pat McGrath’s Artisanal Makeup for Maison Margiela Couture 2017

Makeup artist Pat McGrath’s modern and abstract makeup looks at Maison Margiela’s Spring 2017 Haute Couture show were nothing short of visionary work of art. McGrath created individual makeup looks, tailoring each models makeup specifically to the pieces that she wore. Each look featured layered textures to complement the collection designed by John Galliano. McGrath achieved this multi-dimensional look by incorporating various multimedia elements such as yarn, thread and stitching in an abstract three dimensional way.

On model Barbora Podzimková, McGrath used bright cobalt blue and turquoise eye makeup outlined with Picassoesque lines of red and black yarn swirling across the face and lips to create a 3D effect. Another one of the highlight’s was a sheer snapchat themed overlay worn by model Teddy Quinlivan. McGrath complemented this piece with yellow thread stitched around Quinlivan’s eyelid and ear to mimic the design of her coat.

McGrath used many products from her arsenal of artistic top-selling makeup kits, including Pat McGrath Labs Skin Fetish kit #003 and and a lip kit Lust #004 to create the stunning effects. The overall effect was further heightened by a backdrop of porcelain skin, glossy cheekbones and paint-flecked lips. Pat McGrath’s runway beauty experiments often hint at upcoming product launches which often sell out quickly.  Look for a restock of her best selling kits #003 and #004 in the near future.
