Kim Jones’ Farewell Collection for Louis Vuitton

“It’s about clothes that can change, about fabrics that can travel on the body — and transform,” says designer Kim Jones. “Discovering something new. A constant voyage.”

After his phenomenal success and seven year run at Louis Vuitton, English designer Kim Jones bids adieu with one of the most epic menswear collections to date. In his latest collection for Louis Vuitton, Jones illustrates how he transformed the label into one of the most important brands in the rapidly growing menswear market. Since taking the creative reigns of Louis Vuitton in 2011, Jones has elevated the brand’s storied heritage with grand visions of travel and adventure, and Fall 2018 is no different.

By fusing elements from sports, hunting and outdoor adventure like all-terrain and cross country the collection coveys a sophisticated, masculine ruggedness. Louis Vuitton carries their notable pedigree into heavily utilitarian inspired outerwear. Classic trench coats are updated with detachable linings, metallic threads, and reflective strips, while luxe shearling bombers are clad with shiny exposed zippers, and plenty of clever “two-in-one” jacket styles. Shorts with leggings layered underneath are taken out of the gym where the trend originated, and given a high-fashion twist with cashmere sweat-shorts layered over patchwork-printed monogrammed LV leggings.

The largely unrecognizable, scratchy rock–textured prints were taken from aerial photographs during a trip to Kenya, providing a unique, unexpected range of mix and match patterns. Geared towards an emerging millennial market who values “doing over owning,” the hiking and outdoor inspired athletic separates are sure to strike a cord with a younger, more adventurous crowd. As Jones’ show notes statet “It’s about clothes that can change, about fabrics that can travel on the body — and transform.” These clothes are about “discovering something new. A constant voyage.”
