Joseph Abboud’s Garden of Tailored Linen Resortwear Exudes Manliness

Joseph Abboud kicked off New York Men’s Fashion Week with an intimate breakfast to present his sophisticated take on tailored menswear. Influenced by the wanderlust of famed writer Ernest Hemingway and his years spent in Paris, Abboud’s spring 2017 collection centered on the idea of a traveler.  Epic safari jackets and short trench coats in ultralight fabrications make up his wardrobe of woven linen, silk and cotton jackets, waistcoats and luxe cargo trousers. “This collection was a very personal endeavor for me. Having studied at the Sorbonne, I spent my 21stst birthday in Paris, and celebrated with one of my professors in a café outside of Notre Dame,” Abboud says. “As the clock struck midnight, he handed me Hemingway’s “A Moveable Feast,” and highlighted the passage that read: ‘If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.'”

Abboud’s lush, informal resort style clothes rendered in a palette of white, ivory, dusty wheat and “Havana” brown appear destined for outdoor cafe’s and sultry ocean views in exotic places around the world.  His looser cut and slightly flared trousers worn with breezy deconstructed jackets give off a distinct Cuban, or Latin American feel.  Abboud’s hyper-masculine driven looks were styled with luxurious accessories, including a woven Kilim Turkish bag and a selection of straw fedoras  in collaboration with milliner Albertus Swanepoel.  In a show packed with A-list American models including Sean O’Pry, Brad Kroenig and Garrett Neff, Abboud’s spring 2017 collection exuded the worldliness and sophistication of an adventurer with exquisite style.
