The Wild, Wacky, High Fashion World of Gucci’s Alessandro Michele
There is so much character to this collection, each model’s look is marked by individuality. It’s distinct yet cohesive as a whole collection. The silhouettes are drawn from the 60s, but still look totally contemporary. There’s a wacky sense of quirkiness in each look, made even more compelling with the interesting eyewear and the musings of Spanish artist Coco Capitán scribbled on the umbrellas and t-shirts.
This is also Gucci’s first unified show with both the men’s and women’s collection presented on the runway, so it’s significant in more ways than one. Everything from the footwear to the eye-wear and the jewelry has been well thought-out and curated. Alessandro Michele has reinvented the codes of the house completely, proving himself to be a true visionary. “Fashion is the most beautiful illusion you can have,” says Michele of his wild, poetic, and philosophical creative process. The crazier thing than people’s reaction to the clothes from the Gucci Fall 2017 collection is how fast they sell.
