Doma’s Melancholic Quest For Fluidity

Croatian designer Damir Doma leads the new wave of designers to watch with his poetic Fall Winter 2015 men’s collection. In a testament to his street cred in the fashion world and contemporary culture, Doma is immortalized by rapper ASAP Rocky in “Fashion Killas.”

Doma masterfully plays with proportions, and in the same vein is just as comfortable crossing the gender lines between men’s and women’s clothes. For fall, Doma’s eye-catching new soft silhouettes centered upon a loose, high-waisted fluid trouser with unisex appeal. The designer collaborated with fiber artist Sheila Hicks to introduce delicate patchwork knits deliberately peppered with holes, and whipped up in an array of sumptuous fabrics that feel super soft to the touch. High-waisted, pleated felt trousers are held up by a thin leather belt and and worn with a skewed shawl collar jacket and scarf of the same material. While faux pockets on sweaters were formed from a few stitches of thread and left to dangle at the ends in an unfinished manner.

Doma’s clothes explore contemporary masculinity and the fragile ephemeral quality of the human body. His accessories point to a designer who is a romantic at heart with minimalistic circle brooches and smooth-worn belt buckles crafted from horn. The sunglasses, a much coveted item from the show were created in collaboration with Mykita.
