The Right Way to Wear a Turtleneck

The key to nailing the turtleneck trend this fall is to wear it under thin layers, while  maintaining a monochrome head to toe color. A classic turtleneck worn under a suit or topcoat can take you from sleek to retro cool with little to no fuss. You don’t need much else if you’re wearing a turtleneck. This classic is a style essential this fall, and can be worn under shirts, sweaters, suits, or a topcoats to add a layer of warmth. Tackle the trend and make it your own, by pairing a cashmere cable knit with distressed jeans or sharp trousers.  Or follow Tom Fords directive for evening and slide one under a jacket or tuxedo and wear it as formal evening wear.

Invest in Copper

Copper is making a comeback for fall as foilage and autumn leaves turn to a similar rust color. This warm, autumn rusty brown shade of red  is versatile and worth investing in this season, and will instantly signal your fashion savvy. The rich earthy color blends nicely with neutrals like stone or beige and flatters just about every skin tone. Designers from Burberry to Dolce Gabbana, Etro, and Bally turned out copper colored suiting and outerwear.  While Katie Eary’s sartorial glam rock tribute to David Bowie culminated in a crushed velvet copper shirt and jacket.

Plaid Power Prints

There’s no doubt that plaids are this seasons power print, and this fall it’s all about tartans, checks, and graphic, square windowpane patterns. The bold statement making pattern dates back to medieval times and appeared this season at all the top shows from Raf Simons to Etro and Bottega Veneta, Fendi , Gypsy Sport, and Dior Homme in  proper checks, wooly tartans and graphic windowpane woven fabrics. Go all out with a plaid power suit or keep the look on a more casual note by wearing only the jacket or a pair of plaid trousers with anyone of your favorite key pieces this fall. Plaids are a classic that will never go out of style and are worth owning because they go with just about everything. A plaid shirt under a sweater, jeans, or chinos will always be a solid look.

Track Stars

The new elevated luxury track jacket finds it’s niche this fall as a layering staple under any number of wardrobe staples. Wear one over a T-shirt as a transitional weather jacket in between seasons. The jacket alone adds a cool element when worn under a topcoat or preppy ensemble without you having to wear a full on tracksuit. Try one under a jacket and wear it as a turtleneck.  Any way you slice it, this street style star is a versatile staple to help keep you looking fresh come fall.

Puffer coats are revered for their functionality and warmth, but this season, the coats make a statement all their own the runway expanding in weight, size and a profusion of standout colors. From streamlined puffers with less down at Kenzo to the oversized puffas by Raf Simons, there is something for everyone and any weather condition. Now it’s possible to remain fashionable in extremely cold temperatures with the range of new parkas like the glossy black puffer from Dior Homme.

Trainers Are Back As Low-key Luxury

Sneakers are back in a major way with the multitude of designer/sportswear collaborations releasing trainers with a stylish edge. Raf Simons for Adidas and Robert Geller for Common Projects are among some of our favorites for their superior quality. Now, even the likes of Olivier Rousteing of Balmain and Kim Jones at Louis Vuitton have paired with Nike to create trainers  that are meant to be worn outside the gym. To master the ultimate in low-key street style you’ll need a pair of these.
